Intuition School Explores Jodrell Bank
Our students at Intuition School recently enjoyed an exciting educational trip to Jodrell Bank, where they had the opportunity to explore the fascinating world of space, astronomy, science and engineering.
Educational visits are an important part of life at Intuition School. They give our young people the opportunity to take their learning beyond the classroom, experience new environments and discover subjects in an engaging and memorable way.
Our visit to Jodrell Bank certainly provided plenty to discover!
Discovering Space and Science
Jodrell Bank gave our students the chance to learn more about our universe and the incredible science and technology used to explore it.
Throughout the visit, students were encouraged to investigate, ask questions and follow their own interests. The experience supported learning across a range of areas, including:
space and our solar system;
stars, planets and galaxies;
astronomy and radio waves;
science and technology;
engineering and innovation;
the history of space exploration; and
the role Jodrell Bank has played in scientific discovery.
Seeing science brought to life outside the classroom helped make complex ideas more accessible, meaningful and exciting.
Seeing the Lovell Telescope
One of the highlights of our visit was seeing the impressive Lovell Telescope.
Standing beneath such an enormous piece of scientific engineering gave our students a real sense of the scale of the work carried out at Jodrell Bank.
It was a fantastic opportunity to see something that students may previously only have encountered in books, lessons or online.
Encouraging Curiosity
At Intuition School, we want our students to feel confident asking questions, investigating ideas and discovering what interests them.
Trips such as Jodrell Bank provide the perfect environment for curiosity led learning. Students can explore exhibits, interact with displays and make connections between their classroom learning and the world around them.
For some students, an interest in space, technology or engineering can also provide a valuable starting point for developing wider literacy, numeracy, communication and problem-solving skills.
Developing Skills Beyond the Classroom
Our educational visits also support students to develop important personal and social skills.
Spending the day away from the familiar school environment provides opportunities to practise travelling safely, following an itinerary, managing new surroundings, communicating with others and spending time as part of a group.
With support from our staff, students can gradually develop greater confidence, resilience and independence.
Learning Has No Limits
Whether we are learning in the classroom, exploring our local community or looking out towards the universe, we aim to give every student opportunities to discover their interests, build confidence and recognise their potential.
